our education Investment Company celebrates , with the Arab world and its people, the International Day of the Arabic Language for the year 2023 AD, which coincides with the fiftieth anniversary of the Arabic language being officially included among the 5 other languages used by the United Nations.
Our investment education emphasizes the effective role played by language as a whole and the Arabic language separately in connecting societies to each other, and promoting culture, science and thought, which is no different from what digital technology has done, as both have the ability to create communication between any two parties. Despite this, technology has had the upper hand in influencing languages; especially the Arabic language, with its positive and negative aspects.
Positive effects of digital technology
These positive effects of digital technology on the Arabic language, for example, were represented in the flexibility it provided in various activities such as educational activities, including programs responsible for correcting spelling in real time, which enhanced the linguistic words of their writers and raised their culture, translation sites that helped non-Arabic speakers understand the language or the meanings it carries, and websites and applications of all kinds that influenced Arabic content on the Internet, which raised the rates of reading, research and browsing.
Negative effects of digital technology
On the other hand, despite the negative effects that resulted from the presence of technology, for the sake of correct expression, technology did not push language to these negatives, but rather it is an effect resulting from the interactions of technology users, which for example include writing in what is known as Franco, which is writing in Latin letters but with Arabic pronunciation, as it was possible to write in the same way in paper correspondence, without any influence from technology, and it can also be dispensed with in its presence.
The Kingdom supports the Arabic language with pioneering ideas
However, the Kingdom did not wait for the language to decline, but rather supported it through many pioneering ideas, including the King Abdullah Initiative for Arabic Content to enhance the presence of the language on the Internet through two axes, one of which is building systems, programs, and various websites to serve the language, and the other is issuing free Arabic books and magazines on the Internet, and translating foreign scientific books to enrich the Arabic library.
The Kingdom also established, under the patronage of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz, and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman – may God protect them – the King Salman Global Academy for the Arabic Language in 2020 to enhance the role of the Arabic language at the regional and global levels, and stimulated
Also, the Kingdom, researchers, authors, writers, specialists and those interested in the Arabic language, individuals and institutions, through the Academy’s award, which is worth 200 thousand Saudi riyals.
